Department
of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) has held 126 enforcement
operations throughout the country halal certification and operation over
the 25 food premises ordered to disconnect the halal logo displayed on
their premises.

Senior Assistant Director of Jakim Halal Hub Division, Hakimah Mohd. Yusof said the 25 premises ordered to do so by the use of halal logo is not recognized Jakim.
According
to him, as in force January 1 last, only the halal logo issued by Jakim
can be used and recognized throughout the country.
At
the same time, he said, all the existing halal certificates revoked on
the night of December 31 and all parties must submit a new application
to a single producer of Jakim for display at their premises.
"The
decision was in line with the enforcement of the Trade Descriptions Act
2011 (APD 2011) and Halal certification is approved by Parliament on
July 11 to replace the Trade Descriptions Act 1972.
"For
this halal logo, Jakim has effect from 1 January, means that after that
date there was no other than Jakim's halal logo can be used, especially
in food premises and restaurants," he told Utusan Malaysia here today.
According
Hakimah, remember not to apply the premises of Jakim's halal
certification will be cited for the RM250, 000 or three years in prison
for the company or both.
For individuals, the fines amounting to RM100, 000 or three years imprisonment or both.
In
addition, he said, over 126 operations across the country, 25 premises

"Currently,
we are still in the process of educating on the importance of food
premises operators to apply for Jakim halal certificate and told them
about the new law. However, after three months, if they continue to
persist legal action as provided in the APD 2011 will be.

immediately to obtain halal certification, if they choose the last
minute, it will cause delays because we need to make a specific study to
approve any application," he said.
