Senate: Sex Education Is Not a Special Subject In Schools

Subject of sex education will not be taught as special subjects in schools, said Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Mohd Puad Zarkashi. He said that sex education is also known as the Reproductive Health and Social Education in this country have been introduced in secondary schools in 1989, while primary school in 1994. 

He said the Reproductive and Social Health Education is taught through the subjects of Health Education, Biology, Science, Additional Science, Moral Education and Islamic Education.
"In implementing Reproductive and Social Health Education, Ministry of Education is making preparations to train teachers in primary and secondary to the Main Coach (JU) at the national level and they will train teachers at the state level. "The course JU intend to provide disclosure regarding the implementation of reproductive health education and social and search for teaching approaches and learning (P & P) which is suitable to be translated into the P & P at the class as intended in the curriculum," he said when answering a question Senator Doris Sophia Brodi in the House Chambers, yesterday. Doris Sophia wants to know whether the government intends to introduce the subject of sex education in schools and research on the subject, and when it will be implemented.
Puad said parental involvement will ensure the effective implementation of teaching and learning of Reproductive Health and Social Education in schools. He said the openness of parents in discussing sex matters with their children and support for teachers will be able to indirectly help the effectiveness of the curriculum
