KUALA NERUS - The state government offered two options to seven
families affected by coastal erosion in Kampong Glam after previously
occupied homes are no longer safe for occupancy seen.
Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said that all the
victims can make a choice whether to choose Affordable Homes (RMM) along
RM20,000 or land with a house worth RM40,000.

"Seeing the phenomenon of erosion after huge waves and strong winds a few days ago, we decided to fresh two options to victims who suffered severe damage to their homes."
"The
victim involved can make the choice to move to other areas which have
been identified by building a new house worth RM40,000 or both of RMM
deals that have been built around here including RM20,000," he said
during a visit to Cape Coast Glam adversely affected by the phenomenon of large waves and strong winds, here, last night."
Also
present were Kuala Nerus parliamentary development officer, Datuk Basir
Ismail, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Prof. Datuk Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar, Terengganu police chief Datuk Rosli Abdul Rahman.
JPS ordered to do researchAccording to Ahmad Razif again, it also ordered the Department of
Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to study whether the area affected by
erosion was safe to live or otherwise.
"If we find that this place was not safe to live in, we will ensure
that victims are transferred immediately for the safety of their
families.
"However, we will ensure that the problem of coastal erosion will be
addressed in order to ensure that most of the population is not affected
fishermen," he said.
In a related development, the state government also approved an
immediate allocation of RM1 million to do the work of the erosion
prevention while engaging coast of Cape Glam.
He said that the provisional safeguard measure made it to mitigate the
impact of the continued erosion of the waves hit populated areas.
"JPS is actively bind stone works in coastal areas as a temporary
solution to prevent erosion worsens, while seeking long-term solutions,"
he said.
He added that the incident waves and strong winds that are deemed to
be outstanding until it wreaked havoc on the houses on the coast should
take the time to carry out the study for the long-term solution.
"The state government is indeed serious problems involving soil
erosion because we are aware of many people who were affected,
especially fishermen who depend on the sea," he said.
He
explained that, in addition to Kampong Glam and Kampung Tengah,
Mengabang Telipot, two other areas were also identified suffer severe
corrosion problems caused by high tide phenomenon which began on Monday,
is in Setiu Wetlands in Setiu and Paka, Dungun.
Security forces on alert
Secretary of the District Disaster Management Committee (DTCP), the Civil Defence Department (CDD) Kuala Terengganu / Kuala Nerus, Lieutenant (PA) Ahmad Kamal Hakim said, despite the waves and the wind died down, but the members are put on standby.
"As of this afternoon (yesterday), the waves and the wind had died down, but we continue to take steps early preparation for any eventuality.
"Members were placed on standby to lend assistance if the tide phenomenon hit back Telipot Mengabang area," he said.
He added that the population living in areas at risk of soil erosion are also advised to always take precautions and be aware of the instructions issued by the authorities.
