Director of the Department of Fisheries, Rayner Stuel Galid said both deaths were reported in Sepanggar last Wednesday.
He said seawater samples taken in the waters of toxins Sepanggar record high readings reached 6,000 mouse units (MU).
"This shows the level of pollution in the waters of the red water is very high because the readings reach 400 MU was enough toxic and dangerous," he said.
Rayner said the red water contamination detected in the waters of Papar, Putatan in Kuala Penyu Lake Sitompok here and Tuaran.
He said people who eat contaminated marine life can suffer poisoning toxins on "paralytic shellfish poisoning" (PSP) and if high levels of toxins can cause paralysis and death.
"This phenomenon is expected to continue until May next year and the department will continue to monitor and provide information from time to time for the safety of the public," he said.
He also advised people not to eat shellfish, snails and small fish while deep sea fish, squid and crabs can be eaten but should be removed and cleaned well gills.
